Backyard Birdies Chico is a locally owned portable mini golf rental based in Chico, California, run by owner Dylan Wakefield. Call it minigolf, mini-golf or putt-putt — we bring the course to you, so your party, wedding or work event gets instant entertainment without anyone leaving the backyard. Every rental is owner-delivered and owner-set-up: you tell us where the course should go; we handle the trailer, the layout, the putters and the cleanup.
Meet Dylan Wakefield
Dylan's full-time job is teaching 4th grade at McManus Elementary School here in Chico — Backyard Birdies is the weekend gig that grew out of a love for getting people outside and playing together. He's a Chico State Wildcat through and through: Dylan played four seasons of men's soccer for Chico State as a right-side forward (2014–2017), earning CCAA All-Academic honors all four years, and wrote about what it means to wear the Wildcat jersey for The Orion, the university's student paper.
Off the course, Dylan is a family man first. He's married to Kelsey Wakefield, one of Chico's top Realtors with The Laffins Team at RE/MAX of Chico, and the two of them just welcomed their son Jude, who turned one this year — and who has already been spotted crawling across a hole at a Chico wedding (see the gallery). Dylan and Kelsey are deeply community-driven and are always looking for ways to help their neighbors, whether that's in a classroom, at an open house or on a backyard green.

How long does setup and breakdown take?
Setup usually takes 30–60 minutes, and breakdown is quick and efficient. We'll coordinate timing with you to ensure a smooth event experience.
Do I need an attendant at the event?
An attendant is optional for most events. For weddings or large gatherings, we recommend adding an attendant to help manage gameplay and keep things running smoothly. Attendant cost is $50 per hour.
How do I book a mini golf rental?
Book directly on the live calendar: pick a 3, 6 or 9-hole package in the booking section (or under Packages & pricing) and choose your date and time. Prefer a human? Call or text (530) 518-9673. A 10% non-refundable deposit reserves your date, and the remaining balance is due before your event. We accept credit card, Zelle, check, and cash.
Do you deliver outside of Chico?
Yes. We serve Chico and the surrounding North Valley — Paradise, Oroville, Durham, Orland, Willows, Corning, Red Bluff, Yuba City, Marysville and more. Events outside Chico, CA may include a $2 per mile travel fee.
Can you set up indoors or on concrete?
Yes. The portable holes work on grass, patios, concrete and indoor floors, so the course can go in a backyard, at a venue, in an office or a gym.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancellations 14 or more days before the event forfeit the 10% deposit only. Cancellations 7–13 days before owe 50% of the total rental fee. Cancellations less than 7 days before owe 100%. If Backyard Birdies Chico has to cancel, you receive a full refund including the deposit, or a reschedule. Full details are in our Terms of Service.
What if it rains on my event day?
If severe weather or unsafe conditions make delivery a safety risk, we may delay, reschedule or cancel delivery, and you can choose rescheduling or a full refund. For lighter weather, the course can often move indoors or under cover — just ask.
